The Reality of Depression

The hardest part of the struggle of living with mental illness is learning to be whole again. Each aspect of the illness takes a piece of you, depression being the most relentless. You get out of bed, and you go through the motions but you’re walking through quicksand. The lens of depression clouds reality and makes everything seem distant.A movie is going on and all you can do is watch. You lose the ability to become an active participant in your life. Instead you observe the pieces and parts floating around you, while yearning to put them together. However, the energy to connect the lost elements of yourself doesn’t exist and the exhaustion that comes from trying is crippling.
